The American Association of University Women (AAUW) awarded a to Andrea Milne '09. She is a doctoral candidate in history at the University of California, Irvine.
Andrea is a twentieth century historian whose works sits at the intersection of gender, sexuality, and medicine. Her primary focus is the history of HIV/AIDS; Milne鈥檚 dissertation looks at the nurses who formed the first AIDS ward in the United States. She鈥檚 also written on activism performed by women interned at the Carville National Leprosarium in the 1940s 50s, and 60s. A Senior Pedagogical Fellow at UC Irvine鈥檚 Center for Engaged Instruction, Andrea is passionate about teaching, and mentors aspiring academics and instructors at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. When she is not doing academic work, Andrea works as the research assistant for Nate DiMeo鈥檚 Peabody Award-nominated history podcast, The Memory Palace.
