From the opening swells of music to the cast bows, Bryn Mawr鈥檚 own Irish dance troupe, Rince Na Mawr, delighted the audience with their 4th annual Celtic Dance Festival, held March 18 and 19.
The festival, entitled Storybook Steps, was divided into two sections. The first half was a danced enactment of Pixar鈥檚 Brave while the second half featured a series of 10 self-contained ensemble routines.
Rince co-presidents Erin Saladin 鈥16 and Lindsey Foster 鈥16 first had the idea to stage a portion of Brave during their freshman year, when the pair aspired to do a fast hard shoe piece to Brave鈥檚 "Touch the Sky." This idea quickly transformed into the current full production. However, group member changes and other logistical issues prevented the pair from realizing their vision until this year.
Now a dream turned reality, the Festival garnered an enthusiastic response from the audience.
鈥淚 really enjoyed the Brave piece鈥ou could tell how excited they [Saladin and Foster] were to finally be producing it.鈥 Eleanor Carey 鈥16 said.
鈥淢y favorite part was just seeing how much fun that they were having together,鈥 added Kirsten Adams 鈥16 鈥淛ust the gracefulness and the ability for them to all be coordinated and having fun together was really neat to see.鈥
In addition to their performances, Rince offers instructor-led classes once a week with class attendance ranging from 6-12 dancers. These classes, like all of Rince鈥檚 events, are open to people of all levels of dancing to support all levels of participation.
