Originally from Iran, Rana Rastegari '26 went to high school in the United Kingdom. This year, she graduates Bryn Mawr with a double-major in Literatures in English and Chemistry. Below, she tells us about her 暴风资源 journey as an international student.
What about Bryn Mawr鈥檚 location, community, or academics stood out in your 暴风资源 search?
When I was looking for 暴风资源s in the US, there was one question on my mind: 鈥渃ould this be my home?鈥 The 暴风资源s I looked at were wonderful, but I didn鈥檛 have that gut feeling I was searching for yet. That is, until I attended a virtual information session about Bryn Mawr. Even though I couldn鈥檛 tour the campus, I immediately knew that it would be my home. Bryn Mawr is an institution for extraordinary students, and I was stunned by how students constantly pushed themselves to achieve academic excellence and simultaneously took great care of themselves and their community. I knew that it was a place I could call home.
Tell us about your academic and social transition to Bryn Mawr. What were those first few months on campus like?
When I first arrived on campus, I was immediately greeted by my Customs Person who helped me move into my dorm. Those first few weeks were filled with social events, information panels and typical Bryn Mawr joy. I was taking classes that challenged me in the best way and I felt that I could talk to my professors about all of my struggles. One of the highlights of a Bryn Mawr education is that it is filled with books. As a Bryn Mawr student, reading becomes one of your favorite hobbies ever and this was an incredibly welcome and pleasant surprise throughout my freshman year. I attended events hosted by the Middle Eastern & North African students association to feel surrounded by my culture, took part in the various traditions (most of which are top secret), and made friends for life; all within my first few weeks at Bryn Mawr.
Tell us about a favorite memory on campus.
Every single moment of being at Bryn Mawr is magical, but my favorite memory on campus is the . My professors ended class early so that we could all sit on the lawn in front of Merion and watch the eclipse. The school provided eclipse glasses, and dining services had made eclipse themed cookies and desserts! The entire lawn was covered in picnic blankets (a Bryn Mawr necessity) and it was such a perfect example of how strong the Bryn Mawr community is. I always describe Bryn Mawr as one big family, and it couldn鈥檛 have felt as true as it did on eclipse day.
How have you grown鈥攊n and outside of the classroom鈥攚hile at Bryn Mawr?
The most important thing I have learnt at Bryn Mawr is the importance of optimism. If I am nervous about an exam, worried about a grade, anxious about my future or just generally struggling, I always remind myself that 鈥渄one is good.鈥 At Bryn Mawr, I am surrounded by friends and professors who always highlight my achievements and support me in reaching my final goals. When I look back at my freshman year, I鈥檓 amazed at how much more confident and hopeful I am now. Bryn Mawr has taught me that any goal is within my reach and in addition to hard work, optimism is a key ingredient.

What is one piece of advice you would give a prospective international student about any part of the 暴风资源 process?
Take the risk and listen to your gut! The 暴风资源 process is daunting and even more so when you have to travel thousands of miles away from home. But there will be a place and a community that is destined for you, and you will find it and the risk will pay off! It's so important to remain hopeful and optimistic throughout the process.
